50 Years of Kawasaki-Z Models
Exactly 50 years ago, the legendary 900Z1 Super Four was presented to an impressed audience at IFMA in the Cologne exhibition halls: 903 cm3, 82 SAE hp at 8,500 rpm, 3.5 seconds from zero to 100 km/h and almost 220 km/h top speed dwarfed everything that had been there before. This motorcycle was also the starting point for a new series with powerful and all-round four-stroke motorcycles. On this basis, Kawasaki gradually expanded its Z series. In 1990, again at the IFMA in Cologne, Kawasaki thrilled the fans with the new Zephyr models with 550 and 750 cm3 (a year later also with 1,100 cm3) displacement. Design and engines were derived from the Zs of earlier years. The genes of these motorcycles were later passed on to the ZRX1100 (1997) and ZRX1200 (2001) as well as the current Z series (Z900RS five times in a row MOTORCYCLE of the year from 2018 to 2022). Kawasaki celebrates this 50th anniversary as their highlight at INTERMOT 2022 and again in Cologne.
